It’s that time again folks! Back-to-School time, that is. While your children are buzzing about what friends will be in their class, who their teacher will be and what to wear on the first day of school, I am sure you are ready for a much needed break. Though friends, future teachers and first day of school outfits are paramount, there are a few other things you should being thinking about before the first day of class. I have three simple things you can do to make sure the first day goes off without a hitch:
1. Make sure your child gets to bed early the two weeks leading up to the first day of school. By doing this, you will help establish a healthy routine and, more importantly, it will insure that your child doesn’t doze off in class.
2. You want to make sure your child has a healthy and nutritious breakfast. Food that fuels the brain, please. Skip high sugar cereals and aim for yummy stuff like bananas and peanut butter with whole grain toast, super quick smoothies with fruit or a good ol' scrambled egg.
3. Develop a school year contract or list of goals with your child outlining what they want to accomplish this year. Things like "B+ on all math tests" and "Read one non-school book per week." You can always refer to it if their performance starts to slip or you can use it to show them how well they are progressing.
But most importantly, ENJOY these last few weekends at the beach, sleeping in and being homework free. September will be here before you know it!
